Roberto Spampinato

Roberto Spampinato was an Italian postwar photographer and documentarian whose work captured the changing face of a nation in the mid-twentieth century. Born in Milan, he was first published in the fifties in Il Mondo. Spampinato's street photography, shot entirely in black and white, was vibrant and kinetic. Toward the end of his life and career his profile ascended, and he has been exhibited at New York's Met and at the Musée Historie Carnavalet in Paris. Spampinato died aged ninety-eight in 2022.
